About BBBS:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butte County is a non-profit agency that has served the community since 1997 by providing quality mentoring relationships to children and youth in need of a friend. Big Brothers Big Sisters has a rich history of nurturing friendships between caring adult volunteers and promising children and youth. We serve youth between the ages of 6-17.

We are affiliated with our national organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, who, just last year (2005) celebrated 100 years of mentoring to youth across the nation. Big Brothers Big Sisters is recognized locally and nationally as a leader in the field of mentoring. Nationally, right now we are working to meet our goal of serving one million children by the year 2010.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is supported financially by grants, the profit of our events, and the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations throughout our community who share the value of putting a friend in the life of a deserving child. Our program has tremendous impacts on both the lives of both our children (we call them “Littles”) and our volunteers (we call them “Bigs”).

Services we offer:

School-based mentoring: A Volunteer is matched in a one-on-one relationship with a youth at a local elementary school. The match spends time together on the school campus doing activities ranging from recreational to educational. Support from the agency continues throughout the relationship.

Community-based mentoring: A volunteer is matched in a one-on-one relationship with a youth, 6-17 years old. Activities take place in the community and are the choice of the mentor and his/her Little Brother or Sister. Support from the agency continues throughout the relationship.

Couples/Family-Based Mentoring: A couple (husband & wife) or family (husband, wife & kids) are matched with a youth age 6-17 years old. Being a part of couples/family based mentoring is a great way to share the things you and your spouse or family like to do with a young person. Support from the agency continues throughout the relationship.
